I have some questions for those of you who visit gold bug frequently. I will be visiting May 31 - June 4th, next week essentially, and was wondering about spring weather conditions. Some have told me that there still might be snow up there. What are usual weather conditions this time of year? Or, if you've been up there recently, what is the weather like right now? I'd like to know if I need to be prepared for winter camping or not. Also, with spring run off from the snow melt, will any of the springs still be hot this time of year? I really appreciate any feedback, as I am flying in from out of state and will need to be prepared! Thanks!

I liked your take on my hometown, some great photos, too. I now live in Boise, a dry, hot place, surrounded by an ugly dirt desert. I miss the greenery and hills of the Palouse. Regarding Bucers: It is owned and run by a huge fundamentalist church in Moscow, which also runs the tiny Christian college in town. Interesting place, but there are better venues, including One World Café and Two Sisters Brew. The campus is amazing, next time spend more time there. It's one of the more beautiful campuses around.

Ugh, that's awful! Our most ridiculous hot springs experience was this family who jumped in and starting cleaning themselves with dishwashing liquid! In the hot spring! At least they waited until we were out, but still... !! We were shocked, and it was the last time we went to this particular spring. People are unbelievable sometimes.

Thank you for the beautiful write up...I am a weekly "gold Bug" soaker. Recently, My fiance' and I were soaking and a young couple hopped in with us, but unfortunately, they included their dog. While some people find this perfectly ok, they didn't bother to ask those who were already in the pool. Although we pointed out that there was several other pools (downstream), they insisted on allowing the dog in the pool. Please help bring awareness to the risks of those actions. If you weren't aware of any risks, Please visit the link and decide for yourself. I highly recommend all health-minded fellow hot springs lovers to speak out about this disgusting, disrespectful behavior. http://oregonvma.org/care-health/zoonotic-diseases-dogsP.S. I am a dog lover and owner of 3.

In the early 1970s I lived on that corner in a small miner's shotgun shack. You could walk in the front porch door straight into the living room, move through the kitchen, then through the bedroom and out the backdoor. Thus, it was called a shotgun house. It had a nice lawn with a picket fence and quakies, and the garage contained a 1932 Ford pickup that still ran. In those days I paid $25/mo rent. The house was constructed with 2x4s laid flat so the walls were about 2 inches thick. There was no insulation in the walls, and I had an Alaskan wood stove to heat the entire house. Once the fire went out, the house became cold in about ten minutes. Many times there was frost on the inside walls/windows in the winter. The water in the kitchen froze all the time and you had to leave it running to prevent freezing. One spring during snow melt a small hole appeared in the back yard and upon checking it, I discovered an old Chinese tunnel. There were Chinese dishes, opium bottles & tins and numerous other antiques down there. Today some of those Chinese antiques are on display at Diamond Lil's Saloon in idaho City. When I moved out of the house, Ruth and Larry Carter bought it. They opened an antique store in it called the "Sluice Box." They added to it every year, and when they ran out of space, they started building up. They built up two stories with a third-story widow's walk on top. It finally burned down, and to my surprise, Ruth & Larry rebuilt it again. During the rebuild, the Chinese tunnel was filled in because the ground was sinking. Ruth still owns it, but for health reasons, it's no longer open to the public. It's an oddity and a great place to visit.
